All three girls had scenes where they had to do their hair onstage in a set amount of time and often these rituals were just as captivating as the scene taking place simultaneously.Īll three actresses embodied their characters with facial expressions and movement. A particularly genuine and memorable scene saw the three girls dancing freely to Carole King, each in different ways that show their slightly different personalities (Marcy was in heart-shaped sunglasses, miming into her hairbrush). The comedic moments were also impressive, particularly the hilarious scene where Samantha described her boyfriend asking her if she was an organ donor during sex. The conflict in this play was much more believable than many films and plays that merely focus on girls gossiping behind their friends’ backs. Rarely does any piece of media portray teenage girls so accurately. The intimate atmosphere of the 3MT went well with moments like Samantha’s monologue describing the intimacy of plaiting hair, engaging you in the lives of the three girls. It is an ode to her school friends, her mother and grandmother to the women who have shaped her life, and these relationships are evident in the heart warming storytelling. The play was written by the immensely talented Ellie Klouda – who also did the sound design, with co-direction by Lily Brittain. However, the separation between them starts to cause problems after Marcy finds out her mother has cancer. The trio are childhood friends who have vowed to call each other for an hour every morning as they get ready. In a profile for Australia's Examiner in 2013, Lockhart Brownlie said that he and three other dancers had left Swift mid-tour to work with Perry. This was before the feud had even gone public.Swish Swish at the Three Minute Theatre (3MT ) followed three teenage girls: the lively and rather innocent Marcy (Mariella Dyckhoff), calm and organized Gabrielle (Hope Leslie) and brutally honest, confident Samantha (Lauren Owen). The staffing switch may have been the basis for their feud. The 'incident' Swift talked about may have been a staffing switcheroo. But then, Gawker reports, later in the day after the profile was published, Katy Perry sent out a particularly ominous tweet: -KATY PERRY September 9, 2014 Many thought the culprit in Swift's story was Miley Cyrus. The magazine got Swift to admit there was a "personal element to the conflict." Swift added, "But I don't think there would be any personal problem if she weren't competitive." And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. "I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business. "She did something so horrible," Swift says. "She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'" Then last year, the other star crossed a line. "For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not," she says. Account icon An icon in the shape of a person's head and shoulders.
